Science has moved forward at a rapid pace so that we now possess the data to reliably define dyslexia. For the student, the knowledge that he is dyslexic is empowering. [It provides the] with self-understanding and self-awareness of what she has and what she needs to do in order to succeed.

ALL ABOUT ASSESSMENT
Cognitive, Academic and Social-Emotional Assessment
Sometimes children are not progressing in their learning in the way that is expected. This is often the first prompt for parents to seek an assessment by an Educational Psychologist. If you suspect that your child may have a specific learning disability in reading, written expression or mathematics, an assessment may help unravel what is going on for your child at school. In addition, this will help with planning to support your child to learn as well as they can.
Some children are clearly bright and sometimes bored at school. An assessment helps identify where they sit on the gifted scale and determine the provision of extension or special class inclusion.
The assessment includes two sessions of testing, questionnaires for parents and the teacher, a comprehensive written report, a parent meeting and a school visit depending on what is required.
